Message from the President
Our chapter is really taking off this year with 250 members in 14 states as well as Canada, India and England! We picked up 40 new members in just the last month, mostly from word of mouth! Thank you everyone for spreading the word about our community.
Special thanks to Gio Mercado for his outstanding recruiting efforts!
January has been a very busy month for us as we had our our first joint event with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) NJ KnowledgeNet and we also just launched our first CISSP bootcamp with a class of 90 members!
This year, we are planning to have more in-person events, such as a Community Service Day, our upcoming SECON Conference at Kean University, picnics, a holiday dinner and maybe more!
The future for our community is very bright, with new initiatives for the year already emerging, such as our Rookie Academy!
As our momentum continues to grow at this rapid pace, we are always looking for volunteers in all areas. See below for some specific opportunities or reach out to me at president@isc2chapternj.org, if you are interested in volunteering.

Workshop topic: API Risk Assessment through Software Composition Analysis
APIs are transforming our digital worlds by connecting data, processes and people. API Risk assessment is important for enterprises as part of their overall application security posture. Software Composition Analysis (SCA) is used by enterprises to identify dependencies or components of applications, which may have been built using Open Source and/or proprietary libraries. SCA is essentially a form of Application Security Testing (AST) to find the underlying licensing issues or/and security vulnerabilities in applications. Unfortunately, APIs pose unique licensing and security risks that existing SCA/AST tools do not address. In this session, we'll revisit Software Composition Analysis as a way to discover and manage API risks.
