We hit our 10 year anniversary this month and it made me reflect on all the work that was put into this organization before I got involved. The previous Board members and many, many volunteers had really created something unique for the local cybersecurity community. I am so glad that one of our founding members, Niloufer Tamboly is still active after all of these years.
Looking forward to continuing what she started with our current Board members, Tran Cheung, Priyanka De Abrew, John Manley, Jose Lagdameo Jr. and Mallik Prasad.
We are going to start developing some new programs in the months to come and I hope you can volunteer and be a part of the development process, as we continue to grow and learn from each other.
Welcome Aboard!
New and Returned Chapter Members!
Welcome Ryan Bergamotto, William D'alia, Niloufer Tamboly, Peter Sylvester, William Klisch, Kristian Del Rosario, Devin Valentine, Jack Dixon, and Deja Santana!

Current Initiatives
JuMPstart Mentorship Program (JuMP)
The JuMPstart Mentorship Program's goal is to help our chapter members build professional relationships that are mutually fulfilling.
We received wonderful feedback from our JuMP Series 2 program!
Dan Torres, Mentor:
“Thank you for the opportunity, it was great to see young people taking an interest and learning about cybersecurity. It was an honor to share my knowledge and experience with the students and saw their enthusiasm, which is a gift that I will forever be grateful for.”
When asking for the top 3 benefits of the program, our mentees provided the following feedback:
David Garibaldi, Mentee:
“1. Getting diverse perspectives from those within Security. 2. Having someone I can reach out to with issues outside my organization and 3. Growing my network.”
Robinson Grullon, Mentee:
“Be able to learn and create a network with cyber leaders, share and apply lessons learned in the field and how to become a better communicator with co-workers and c-level leadership.”
For more information about the JuMP program, click here.
We will start new JuMP series on a rolling basis and plan to kick off JuMP Series 4 cohorts from September 2022 through January 2023. If you are interested in participating in our mentorship program as a mentor or mentee, you can sign up on our JuMP waitlist here.
If you have any questions or want to know more information about the JuMP program, please reach out to the Mentoring Committee at mentoring@isc2chapternj.org. To make sure you are not missing any emails from the program, please also add mentoring@isc2chapternj.org to your contact list to allow our communications to make it through your inbox filters.

NYDFS: A Cybersecurity Watchdog - With Bite By Mark Schleisner, CISSP, PMP
NYDFS doesn't have the name recognition enjoyed by NIST, and the acronym doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. However, it represents a tough regulatory agency: The New York State Department of Financial Services.
Among its many mandates is the "NYDFS Cybersecurity Regulation". It requires New York State- regulated financial services to assess their cybersecurity risks and take action to mitigate those
risks. The regulation is designed to protect consumers and financial institutions from potentially costly cyberattacks. It went into effect on March 1, 2017, with implementation to occur within 180 days.
